Defining IT & technology terms

Flash storage

Flash storage is electronic data storage that can write and read data faster than traditional Hard Disk Drives (HDD). Flash storage can also retrieve memory when power isn’t available. Compared to HDD, flash storage has no moving parts, which is why it’s often referred to as a Solid-State Drive (SSD).

Flash storage comes in many sizes, from thumb and desktop drives to data center storage units. Flash storage’s performance capabilities make it an ideal storage solution for real-time analytics and creating computer system backups.
